At STEP, we wholeheartedly embrace the concept of a growth mindset in students, a commitment reflected in our active participation in various projects on the topic.
One of these projects is MindSetGo 2.0, which aims to equip teachers and schools with the necessary tools for supporting students’ growth mindset by ensuring availability of free hands-on creative and inspiring material for developing a growth mindset of teachers, principals, students, and parents.
The project brought together teachers from various countries who were reporting about their teaching cases in relation to growth mindset. Based on their practical teaching cases and activity examples we created the Growth Mindset Toolkit with the aim to bring those activities in several more classrooms around the world.
In addition to the toolkit, we created a free online course “Learn How to Develop the Growth Mindset of Your Students“. The main purpose of the course is to present the concept of a growth mindset in the context of teaching and to give as many practical and useful instructions as possible that teachers and trainers will be able to implement in the classrooms.
We start the course by covering the basics, we learn what a growth mindset is and why it is essential in your teaching practice, how to introduce brain growth to your students, different activities you can perform in the classroom, and what a growth mindset is not.
We then focus on the growth mindset language that you use in the classroom, show examples how to properly communicate praise and high expectations, and demonstrate the link between learning and results. You will learn about the superpowers of your teaching technique. What factors influence students’ growth mindset, how to reduce goals down into smaller steps, deliberate practice and desirable difficulty, the necessity of mistakes and multiple exposure, and adoption growth mindset approaches.
In the last part we discover how to bestow superpowers on your students, how to teach them positive self-talk, and how to conquer obstacles. Also, how to assist them in reflecting on their learning process and adjusting their learning practice. We will learn how to prepare growth mindset friendly assessments.
