DIDA aims for disability-inclusive debate and advocacy. The project raises the capacity of youth work to train young people with disabilities in advocacy through debate. It brings together two fields within youth work that are currently very distant: debate-based youth work, which is strong in youth participation but currently is not disability-inclusive, and disability-based youth work, which is inclusive for disabled youth but does not have the capacity to support their participation yet.
We will develop an accessible, high quality training module that youth work organisations can use to train young people with disabilities. This module will be based on guidelines for inclusion of disabled youth. The materials will be accompanied by a train-the-trainer module, and we will disseminate the results and train youth workers during National and European Disability Debates.
The role of STEP Institute
STEP will lead WP3, where the main objective is to develop a high quality, accessible training module for youth work organisations to train young people with disabilities in disability advocacy. Structured debate will be used as a method in the training module. It will consist of the following three main pillars: A) knowledge on the rights of persons with disabilities, B) debating skills and C) advocacy practice and strategy. The training module will be accompanied by a train-the-trainer module, which is meant to make youth workers acquainted with the materials and capable of training their youth with it.
