NewsUP2NEB Mobility in Milan

May 29, 2026

Last week, the mobility activity of the European project UP2NEB came to an end in Milan.

For five days, 11 young participants from 8 European countries worked together to develop innovative ideas for the regeneration of the Certosa district in Milan, inspired by the core principles of the New European Bauhaus: sustainability, inclusiveness, and beauty.
Throughout the week, participants explored the neighbourhood, met local stakeholders, visited innovative organisations, and engaged in co-creation and design thinking activities aimed at identifying opportunities for community-driven urban transformation.

Thanks to the support of Materially, participants explored the role of materials in sustainable design through hands-on workshops, experimenting with new material concepts created from locally collected resources and waste streams.
Building on their field research and exchanges with citizens and local innovators, the participants developed project proposals aimed at strengthening community engagement and generating social, environmental, and economic value for the Certosa district.

The mobility concluded with a public event at Designtech – CoFactory, where the young participants presented their ideas to local stakeholders and members of the community.
