EMPOWER: Encouraging Migrant women to seize their Potential and Opportunities in the World of EntRepreneurship

LTTA, 4th – 8th September 2023, Ljubljana

This week are hosting the EMPOWER International training in Ljubljana. Together with ISA Institut, we welcomed participants from Germany, Sweden, Italy, and Slovenia, and started the week with getting to know each other, connecting, and creating a safe and respectful environment where everyone can contribute their ideas, knowledge, and experience.

Our first guest, Mrs. Majda Suljanović Hodžić from Ljudska univera Jesenice, shared valuable advice about working in multicultural groups. She emphasized the importance of accepting participants as they are, respectfully exploring their cultures, representing the culture of the majority/local environment, and overcoming potential obstacles. The most important message of the day was how important it is to sincerely believe in individuals, to support and encourage them on their way.

We ended the with a roundtable and a heartfelt conversation with incredible migrant women who shared their stories about overcoming obstacles on the way to success, learning a foreign language, getting to know the Slovenian environment and various factors that brought them to Slovenia, including love.

On Tuesday the focus shifted towards entrepreneurship and competencies in three pivotal areas:

  • Into Action
  • Ideas and Opportunities
  • Resources

During the sessions, participants delved into a deep exploration of what these key areas symbolized. The training incorporated an intriguing workshop led by Petra, where participants engaged in an exercise designed to highlight the perception of individuals by others. In this exercise, each participant drew a portion of another person’s face and then exchanged their drawings with another participant. This creative activity helped illuminate the varied perspectives we hold about one another.

The significance of working with stories was also emphasized during the training. Stories were identified as a potent tool for establishing connections and building a sense of unity among individuals.

At the end of the day Tine guided the participants through a final engaging activity. The activity revolved around the concept of transforming bad ideas into good ones, fostering creativity and innovation.
