This is one of the key questions behind DigPlay – Unlocking Digital Potential Through Gaming, a new Erasmus+ Forward-Looking project that we officially kicked off in Krk, Croatia, at the end of May.

Over the next 36 months, we will explore how game-based environments can be used to assess and support digital competencies such as problem-solving, managing information, collaboration, content creation, and digital safety.

The project brings together partners from Croatia, Ireland, Bulgaria, Slovenia and Italy, combining expertise in education, digital platforms, gaming, employability, youth engagement and assessment.

At STEP, we are especially interested in how this approach can make assessment more meaningful and motivating for young people. Our role in the project focuses on research-supported, learner-centred assessment design, helping to translate digital competences based on DigComp 3.0 into behaviours observed while playing video games.

We look forward to contributing to a project that asks an important question: what if the skills young people build through play could become proof of their digital potential?
