March began on a very inspiring note! We held a training where participants explored the power of debate as a tool for inclusion and youth advocacy.
During the training, participants:
-
explored debate as a method,
-
developed skills in building arguments and counterarguments,
-
tested a debate format in practice,
-
exchanged and reflected on feedback,
-
and planned future workshops on debate and youth advocacy.
The training was implemented within the DIDA project, which aims for disability-inclusive debate and advocacy. The project strengthens the capacity of youth work to train young people with disabilities in advocacy through debate. It connects two fields that are currently quite separate: debate-based youth work, which is strong in fostering youth participation but not yet inclusive for people with disabilities, and disability-focused youth work, which is inclusive but has less focus on supporting active participation in society.
Within the project, we have also developed Guidelines for Implementing Inclusive Youth Work Activities, which serve as a foundation for the development of a training module that youth work and disability organisations will be able to use to train young people with disabilities.
We are grateful for the participation and contributions of representatives from Center IRIS, CUDV Draga, Društvo Aia, Društvo prostovoljcev Vincencijeve zveze dobrote (Center za družine Mirenski Grad) and Zavod za gluhe in naglušne Ljubljana.
