The importance of entrepreneurship and an entrepreneurial mindset is increasing, for individuals, organisations, companies, and society as a whole. Potential impacts of entrepreneurship have increased, and start-up companies have become important driving forces of innovation, progress, economy, and social change. Young people have the potential to compete and to face all the challenges in the world. In light of fast global changes on many different levels, shifts in global trends and the fact that entrepreneurship is defined as a transversal competence, it is even more important to build and improve the entrepreneurial capacity of each individual.
Entrepreneurship education has long been focused on a theoretical approach, preparing a systematic business plan and development of a company in the office. In the last decade, there has been a shift also in this field, towards a more experiential approach, based on developing ideas, practical methods and tools, field work, and the development of the Canvas business model approach. It helps individuals to develop an entrepreneurial mindset and enables them to enter the job market as more qualified employees or as self-employed entrepreneurs. An entrepreneurial character shouldn’t be over-occupied with a theoretical background and financial literacy, otherwise, it can result in the opposite effect than expected.
At STEP Institute we focus on entrepreneurial competencies, skills, and approaches that can be learned in a frame of “learning by doing” philosophy. We believe that this is very important for setting an open entrepreneurial mindset. The relationship between entrepreneurial mindsets and culture of innovating is a key message of our roles when dealing with entrepreneurial topics (workshop, course, mentoring, consultancy). An entrepreneurial mindset can help individuals to create and develop ideas, spot opportunities, to take initiatives and risks, to cope with uncertainties to make ambitious changes in organisations and their lives too.
