STEP team had a great opportunity to gain new knowledge and meet new people at Gran Canaria. So this time we took over the role of being participants instead of trainers and/or organizers :) In September we traveled to Las Palmas where we had an opportunity not only to learn about entrepreneurship and how to pass this knowledge to others, but also to spend great time with the hosts and other colleagues attending the training. "Lean Startup for STARTUP Erasmus +" training was organized at Incube (entrepreneurship incubator at Infecar) by SPEGC, a Spanish partner in the STARTUP – Spread The ART of going UP – project. SPEGC is an organization for promotion of economic and entrepreneurial activities that contribute to the development of Gran Canaria. Among other things SPEGC supports the initiative of enterprise creation, innovations and provides economic and entrepreneurial information and specialized trainings to different users (individuals, startups, entrepreneurs, organizations etc.).
Our man of the week was Jose Manuel Sanchez Santana, a trainer with many experiences in the field of entrepreneurship. He introduced us to the Business Model Canvas and Lean Startup Methodology – two important methods all startups and young entrepreneurs should know about and use before entering the world of entrepreneurship and business. Jose was a great trainer who led us step by step through the learning process and helped us to fully understand entrepreneurial concepts and improve our skills. He did that not only through the introduction of theoretical concepts, but also with interactive games, videos, group work and encouraging the discussion. All participants were active members of 5 smaller groups where we worked on our own business ideas.
At the beginning of the training we had an opportunity to put a vote on the most interesting or intriguing business ideas proposed by every single participant and the chosen ones were then developed further with the help of lean startup and business model canvas. That means we had to think about the value proposition, customers and our relationships with them, distribution channels, our key partners, activities and resources and of course about costs and revenues. When we got familiar with the concepts we started to work hard and at the end we were very proud to present our products and serivces: SmartBag, StayHealthy App, Paper2go, Paradise Keys and TravelShooting :)
But the training was not only hard work, we also had fun and the learning atmosphere was creative and relaxed, so we were able to develop our ideas and come up with some real business proposals and solutions. We also did a study visit to 2 coworking spaces, where we had a chance to talk to local entrepreneurs and artists.
After stimulating our brain at the training, somehow we still had enough energy to spend time with other participants and to explore the Gran Canaria island. We were enjoying local food (we just have to say that mangos were simply delicious J), the hospitality of people, the waves, the dunes and informal work meeting on the beach. We must also send a big thank you to Belen and Maria Carmen, our colleagues and local organizers, who really took great care of us and made our stay at Gran Canaria even more memorable.
Like every good story also our "Lean Startup for STARTUP Erasmus +" training story came to an end. We brought new knowledge, skills, ideas and commitments for new projects and of course lasting friendships back home with us. And our energy levels are now high enough to tackle all future challenges :)
